Highland cattle at Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, KY
2013-11-24 - Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, KY - Photo by Pen. Tillie likes anything cowboy and Hailey loves cow and horses but their eagerness to make friends when this Scottish Highland "cow" met them eye to eye at the fence and the little girls gave out loud squeals of fright. But soon got used to him, even though he looks more like a water buffalo than anything else. Nice do, though; cute bangs.

Monument to Sgt. Alvin C. York - (Dec. 13, 1887-Sept. 2, 1964)
2013-11-24 - Pall Mall, TN - Photo by Lee Murphy, Liberty, KY. Lee Murphy and two outstanding Casey Countians, Tony York and Anthony York cousins of the late World War I Hero Alvin C. York, attended Veterans Day events in Pall Mall, TN. The account of their story has elicited an extraordinary volume of interest - and just a bit of controversy in the follow-up. But it's all getting sorted out. The photo above of the York Monument in the cemetery beside the matchless little Wolf River United Methodist Church, doesn't settle, in itself, one issue, but dates in the entry on his life in Wikipedia do affirm that Alvin Cullum York did, indeed, live into the time of memories of many alive today . And are hearing more about his visits to Adair County over the years, including trips to the Adair County Stockyards, which was located, appropriately enough, where Hobdy, Dye, & Reed's dealership is today on Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY.
