Snow, January 25, 2014
2014-01-26 - 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Letisha Paris. The snow was meant to be a playground to become a Norman Rockwell classic moments later when snowball fights like those of yore took place, but for a nonce, it was a moment of almost chaste purity, only slightly disturbed by the tracks of slow moving traffic. - CM

Perfect snowdrift on Fairplay Road
2014-01-25 - Fairplay Road at Eddie Compton Road - Photo by Linda Waggener. One can always count on a perfect snowdrift on Fairplay Road. Unbroken one was just south of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, at the intersection of Fairplay Road and Eddie Compton Road. Photo taken Saturday, January 25, 2014. - Linda. PS - Yes, it's on my To Do list every real snow: search for a snowdrift - one of the best parts of winter.

Scenic Adair Co., KY: Winter at Gadberry Dip on KY 704
2014-01-25 - KY 704 near Johnson School Road - Photo by Linda Waggener. The Gadberry Dip on Scenic KY 704 pleases in every season, but today - with shadows on the snow, cedars, and seemingly satisfied livestock enjoying rations of hay - today, well today was special. Right up there with the scene in the spring with its innumerable daffodils, in fall color, and in the languid green of summer. Just a favorite place. A marking place on perhaps Kentucky's most pleasing scenic highway. - Ed Waggener

Happy Tail success story: Basset Hound adopted - This Basset Hound was brought to Sugarfoot Farm Rescue and has been adopted. They've named him "Waldo." This is what his new owner, Doyle Curry said in an email: "Waldo has had all his shots and medications and as you can see he has made himself at home. He has had a bath, nails clipped and ears cleaned. He gets along with Gerty (another Basset Hound they adopted from me.) pretty good too." - Peg Schaeffer

Snowball World War I Downtown: Gotcha!
2014-01-25 - Fountain Plaza, Downtown, Columbia, KY - Photo by Brian T. Koenig. Combatant Gavin took a direct hit from Anthony as Dalton, right, awaits the opportune moment to move in and end the battle triumphantly. Dalton's only problem was logistics, and faulty ammo - his adult supply line would keep him supplied to hard-packs and his own snowballs prematurely explored. There were no casualties. A moment in the life of Esquirrel: Breakfast interruptus
2014-01-25 - Bird Rock, Columbia, KY - Photo CM Staff. King of the Rock. First the alpha male cardinals dueled for the Adair County Garden Club Wild Bird Seed, then Esquirrel put an end to their squabbling by seizing and occupying the station; then, his own breakfast was interrupted by a tap on the window pane requesting a news conference and photo opt, which he gave, but seems just a little put out about it, but not enough to leave after the session was over. - EW
