Election 2014 (Ad): Brenda Mann, for Adair Co. Clerk

2014-02-06 - Columbia, KY - Photo Candidate photo.

VOTE BRENDA MANN FOR ADAIR COUNTY CLERK

To Adair Voters and Citizens:

Family--- Hello, I am Brenda Mann, Republican candidate for Adair County Clerk. I humbly ask for your support in the May 20 Primary Election. I am married to Gary Mann and we have three children: Dr. Brandi (Dr. R. J.) Blackburn, Michael (Jennifer) Mann, and Kyle Mann. We have two grandchildren Dylan and Macy.

I grew up on a dairy farm in the Sano Community of Adair County, and I am the daughter of Millard Eldon Kinnett and the late Maxine Kinnett.

Education---I am a graduate of Adair High, Lindsey Wilson College and Western Kentucky University with an associate degree in business administration, bachelor's degree in business education, and masters and rank I degrees in school administration and leadership.

Experience and Leadership---I had the honor and privilege of working with students, parents, staff and the community for over 30 years in the Adair School District. I served in leadership roles as School Food Service Director, Director of Pupil Services, Assistant Superintendent, District Treasurer, and my most work of supporting and providing educational services to students. I received all excellent yearly job performance evaluations and audits of the programs I supervised. I currently serve in several community service organizations including the Columbia-Adair Chamber of Commerce.

My past work has provided extensive experience working with small and large programs and budgets, from a 1 million plus budget as Food Service Director to a 20 million plus budget as the School District Treasurer. My duties included program management, budgeting, record keeping, staff hiring, supervision and evaluation, fund receipts and expenditures, purchasing, bidding, and use of technology and computer.

My experience in the Adair County School District, as a small community business owner, and in community service has provided valuable knowledge that I believe would be an asset in managing the finances of the 4 million dollar budget and other responsibilities of the Adair County Clerk's office.

If elected as your Adair County Clerk, I will work with the current outstanding, experienced office staff to:
  • serve all persons in a professional, fair and timely manner;

  • provide public information as it pertains to office services, laws and regulations;

  • listen to public concerns and work to resolve any issues or problems;

  • maintain strict accountability and efficient use of funding;

  • seek grant funding to improve permanent electronic records management; and

  • work with other officials, agencies and citizens for the betterment of the community.
In my years of experience, I have found that the best predictor of a person's future performance, work ethic, integrity and effective leadership is past performance, and I stand on my record of hard work, integrity, and wise use of tax dollars as a predictor of my ability to offer the citizens of Adair a highly efficient, friendly and progressive Adair County Clerk office.

I have no political obligations except to serve the best interest of the residents of Adair County. If you have questions, or would like to speak to me, please feel free to call me at 270-384-5545. I look forward to talking with as many of you as possible during the upcoming campaign. Thank you for your consideration and support

Line fence more than 60 years old.
I can remember as a child hunting dry land fish in this woods belonging to my Grandmother Annie Cheatham next to Bill Murrell. Dad (Wilburn Cheatham) and my Grandmother ran this line fence on the trees. They were there, so why not use them as a post? - Shirley Jones

Scenic LaRue County, KY: Ice on lake at Mt. Sherman

2014-02-05 - Mt. Sherman, KY - Photo by Lindsay Durbin.
The ice was thin on the near side of the lake, but much thicker near the center. Lindsay Durbin doubts it was thick enough to walk or skate on or do some Minnesote still fishing through the ice. She did test it by throwing a large rock on the heaviest ice and it didn't break. The lake is fine for fishing. She took the photo today at her Mt. Sherman Farm, located off KY 210, about one mile from the Taylor County line. Most roads were clear, but side roads were a bit iffy, enough so that schools were closed in LaRue County today.
