Birds of KY: Shy, striped little brown bird - a Song Sparrow
2014-03-14 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Had a cute visitor yesterday this little brown bird with handsome stripes. It was a bit camera shy - unlike the bold squirrels who pose for cameras, but it seemed very nice. Kind of ironic - like a wannabe gadfly in a chalk stripe suit secluded in the corner at the party. Don't remember the birds ID, yet. Appreciate help, though. - EW. Wendy Butler Burt - writes, "It's a Song Sparrow -- one of our tuneful year-round residents!

Birds of Kentucky: Case of the Robin and the Reluctant Dinner
2014-03-13 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The whole game was monitored closely.. The Robin won the game of Hide-and-Seek with the earthworm, but he earthworm was a reluctant loser; magnifying the worm a big shows it's thin mid-body attenuation as it tried to bury back in its hole. In the end, it was vanquished, and et, without a burp or a napkin wipe by the bird.

Reflections on Life: A poem for a photo in search of a poem
2014-03-13 - From Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff photo. Reflections on Life
by Gerald Reliford
This scene is tranquil one can attest
It speaks a word of peace and rest.
A scene of life as it has passed
A vision of moments from first to last.
The homes behind are places of birth
Or homes where one grew up on earth.
The stones in front all mark the place
Where all who run shall finish their race.
The valley, trees, and barn between the two
Point out what every man passes through.
The trees grew up, the barn was built well
As the passing of time its story can tell.
The journey through life may be short or long
It is usually a mixture of tears and song.
We pass the barn and climb the last hill
To end in the place where all things are still.
Even from the start one thing is the same
On one of those stones will then be our name.
We can’t change it then but can work today
Doing our best so it ends the right way.
As you reflect on your life from beginning ‘til now
Do you find many things for which you can bow?
When you are at rest at your journey’s end
Will a multitude say, “This man was a friend”?
- Gerald Reliford 3/13/2014
