A happy reunion after decades apart at Campbellsville U

2014-04-07 - Technology Traing Center, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Pastor Siler and "Little Bird"
- The Church Relations Council of Campbellsville University held spring meetings last Thursday and Friday, April 3-4, 2014. Preston Siler, pastor of Thixton Lane Baptist Church in Louisville, enjoyed a reunion with Robbin Cox who works at CU now but was a child when he pastored her family's church, Mt. Roberts Baptist in Taylor County. Siler said in the early 1970s he called the eleven-year-old daughter of Calvin and Aileen Skaggs his "Little Bird" because of her name, Robbin. She's all grown up now and works in the Virginia Ponser Flanagan Technology Training Center at CU where break-out sessions of the Church Relations Council were held and where the two enjoyed their visit. Siler has been the pastor at Thixton, located on the border of Jefferson and Bullitt Counties, for over 20 years. He asked for a copy of the keepsake photo to share with his wife Rachael who works at UofL so she can see their "Little Bird" now. - Linda Waggener, Campbellsville University

Controlled Burn: Wary deer watch from safe distance

2014-04-07 - Jeff Biggs Farm, off KY 55, Columbia, KY - Photo by Janet Biggs. The controlled burn on 250 acres of the land they share had the complete attention of the affected tenants, who watched the whole show from a safe distance. The ring of fire encircling the controlled burn was purposely left open along part of the perimeter to allow wildlife easy egress.

Daffodils at Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church

2014-04-07 - Burkesville & Church Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo CM Staff Photo. If there are only these, Daffodil Season would be a success. So many, like me, depend on the daffodils at the manse beside Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church to provide a comforting reminder that our small town's values are preserved, but perhaps in too fragile a fashion to rest easy from year to year; still, the appearance of two Sunday morning worshippers gave hope for permanent continuity. Daffodils at Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church - I

2014-04-07 - Burkesville & Church Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff photo. If there are only these, Daffodil Season would be a success. So many, like me, depend on the daffodils at the manse beside Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church to provide a comforting reminder that our small town's values are preserved, but perhaps in too fragile a fashion to rest easy from year to year. These destination daffodils were photographed Sunday, April 6, 2014, in the spirit of the approaching Easter, which comes this year on April 20, 2014. - The Daffodil Editor, ColumbiaMagazine.com, who believes one can never have enough Daffodils - or kids, thank you Melissa Stone - on the site.
