Kentucky Color: Green and white for a while

2014-04-16 - Greenhills, Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
After blushing green and red for 10 days or so,
now the explosion of white has occurred. This Snowdrift Weeping Crabapple will now be green and white for a while. I hope the below freezing temperatures this morning April 16th won't shorten the duration of color. - Billy Joe Fudge Photo April 15, 2014

Columbian Theatre: Still an icon of Downtown

2014-04-16 - By the Fountain, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Larry Smith, The WAVE, FM 92.7 radio. It hints of a photo from decades ago but this black and whie of the Columbian's 30-ft plus tall vertical sign was taken last night. For so many in South Central Kentucky, it evokes wonderful memories. Memories of when the late Grover Gilpin ran the G & M Grill, next door. Memories of when lifetime mates were found. Memories of walks from Lindsey Wilson College to the picture show. Memories of lifetime memories. Just yesterday, Yvonne Marshall, who ran the theatre with her late husband Charles Marshall, recalled the visits to the theatre when the late Lindsey Coach Don Green and his wife were regulars, and a an enduring friendship began which transcended great distances. And it's a reminder of a bit of wisdom from Doyle Lloyd, who walks with Carolee Robertson Curry, two miles somewhere in Columbia every day possible, of how much more one can really see about the town when on foot. The view captured by Larry Smith is one of those sights. It's only seen from the Theatre Walk off the Square. The Columbian Theatre has been a part of life so long few can imagine Columbia without it; and nearly everyone hopes for a reopening someday.
