Travelers here: A stop in Columbia, in search of good food
2014-07-11 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Jeffrey and Darlene Neeley parked their very interesting ride to search for a place to eat, and found one - on the Square, which satisfied both his appetite for Pork Chops & 2, and her vegetarian diet. The couple are residents of Byrdstown, Pickett County, Tennessee, and just happened through Columbia on a meandering summer ride. The The trike is a 2004 Honda Goldwing two wheeler, converted to a a three wheeler with a 2012 kit. The Neeleys came to Byrdstown, TN, 10 years ago after he retired from GM in Cincinnati, OH. At TaP's Diner, they met Johnny Vaughn, Dean of Adair County Assimilation Academy, but expressed no immediate interest in becoming Born Again Adair Countians. In fact, the matter didn't come up, but Mr. Neeley's comments vouched for the quality of the Fried Potatoes and the Pork Chops, indicating they might return to eat here someday. The picture is a posed up. Darlene Neeley was asked to do her best Nancy Reagin gaze, and did it, quite convincingly.

New, outgoing chairs of C/AC Parks & Rec Board
2014-07-11 - 102 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Bobby Bowe, left, is the new chairman of the Columbia/Adair County Parks & Recreation Commission. He follows Charles Grimsley, right, who has served a chair through three appointments. Grimsley pushed to have the Parks & Rec Commission formed, with the concept that it would be a joint city-county endeavor, and pushed the idea to fruition. Bowe retired after a long career in State Government in both the State Parks Department, and Finance & Administration Cabinet. The two were working on the agenda for the next meeting of the board.
