For so many, this was a moment of a lifetime, the moment of the parade, when the Baptist Church bus stopped in front of the historic Adair County Courthouse. Aboard were men from among our most treasured citizens, Adair County's veterans from World War II: Elbert Burton () Burton, Brooks Coomer, George Keltner, () Burris, Bro. Raymond Martin, Bob White, and Edgar Holmes. Joe Hare, VFW Post 6097, Commander, sums up his feelings about the day, "Every veteran, along with the general public were very pleased that the WWII veterans were the grand marshals.
