Birds of Kentucky: Black vulture reigning on Jr. Loy Road 2015-04-21 - Jr. Loy Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. It's majestic in flight, and more prevalent now than the turkey vultures we all do appreciate. But it's increased presence has not been so welcome. Unlike turkey vultures, the black vultures don't always wait for their dinner for the wildlife coroner to pronounce the soon to be deceased, deceased. Still, scary as it is, it's an awesome creature, and there must be some reason for it, same as there is for a-tonal music and ignoramuses everybody but them has to endure - if one wants to get philosophical about it.
