Wildflowers of Kentucky: Daisy time on Scenic KY 704
2015-05-19 - Earls Ridge, KY 704, near Hadley Community Church, - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo. It's Daisy Time on Scenic Highway 704 between Columbia and Burkesville, KY. In some areas, along they grow in long rows, almost as if planted, along the edge of the right of way. In others, as above, adorning an roadside bank. - LINDA WAGGENER. Photo taken Mon 18 May 2015 in Adair County.

Wildlife of Kentucky: Urban Coyote
2015-05-19 - 1200 block, Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Junior Stotts, iPhone photo. Junior Stotts caught this Coyote trespassing on his SE corner lot - The Chapman Place - Primary Election Eve, Mon 18 May 2015. Probably not the first time one's been this close to town, but it's the first one ever submitted to CM. That's Blue Raider Stadium directly across the Louie B. Nunn, Cumberland Parkway, top of frame. Diagonally across the interchange from the field is Kentucky State Police Post 15, so this guy is rather brazen. Who do you call when a coyote is spotted? Animal Control? KY Fish and Wildlife? The latter was really busy yesterday pinpointing the source of the fish kill in Russell Creek. Nearby Green River Animal Shelter has taken in a wolf-dog, but might not want a coyote.

Scenic Cumberland Co., KY - Hopewell Acres at Amandaville
2015-05-18 - Amandaville on Crocus Creek, Cumberland County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, CM photo. Kentucky 704 from Columbia to Burkesville remains one of the most beautiful on earth. Ridgetop panoramas, long views down valleys, and twisty turns with surprises around every corner make every mile exciting, for first timers and frequent travelers as well. The road is absolutely stunning today with the redolence of honeysuckle, especially in the evenings, newly bloomed daisies along the way. Woodlands, even those recently harvest, are lush green, and it's a wild animal and bird paradise. But there is a certain sadness for those of us who remember the beautiful old structures along the way, once so much more prevalent, but are falling away too quickly. Almost all the churches still stand, and thankfully, the most striking icon of the byway, Hopewell Acres, above, seems to stand eternal. It's still in the Chowing family, owned by John and Joe Chattin Chowning, still in operation as a farm, timberland, and oil producing property, and looks very much as it has since it was owned by the present owners' parents. Photo taken Mon 18 May 2015. - EW
