Faculty, staff opening day: We're all in this together
2015-08-06 - 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Harper Claiborne, Adair County School District . Cady Taylor, Ellie Cheatham, and Jordan Grider during their performance of "We're All in This Together" during the Adair County Schools Opening Day activities. They represent the Adair County Elementary School and did a fabulous job! - Shamarie Harper Claiborne (Note: Some are wondering about the letters on the floor. They are a reflection of the banner, most saw. That reflection likely wouldn't have happened last year. The finish on floors throughout the Adair County District is a result of a new, lower cost, longer lasting wax the district is using. It's the same wax, Maintenance Director David Jones says, that is used at the Pentagon. - CM)

New Great Light Way in Columbia - Indian Drive
2015-08-06 - Greensburg Street at Indian Drive, Columbia, KY - Photo Ed Waggener. With buried utility lines: Work is continuing on the installation of street lights on Indian Drive. A total of 25 of the boulevard lights are being installed, stretching from this point at Indian Drive and Greensburg Street, around Indian Drive, all the way to the back entrance to the John Burr Memorial Gym, at the a point near the new entrance canopies. It's just part of the transformation the campus is undergoing, with so much a surprise for students returning to campus today after a long summer break. Above, Adair County Maintenance Superintendent David Jones and Superintendent Alan W. Reed discussed progress on the lighting project. The Adair County School Board has set as a goal living up to the example set by Lindsey Wilson College. "We're making the transition to college seem just a promotion from K-12, he said. "Our campus is being favorably compared to Lindsey already. In fact, Mr. Jones is already benefitting from the experience shared by Mike Newton, his counterpart at Lindsey." A new Adair Schools entrance sign, along the lines of those at Fairground Street and Lindsey Wilson and by the Lindsey Wilson Holloway Wellness Center, is on the agenda. Yet to be announced: The campus as a walking, biking center, integrated with the community parks system.
