Favorite old photo: Mr. David and his favorite drink

2015-08-22 - 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Judy Corbin.
Judy Corbin found this photo she took some 40 years ago of Mr. David Heskamp, taken at what was then Grissom-Maupin-Heskamp Funeral Home. He always loved Coke in those small 6 oz. bottles. David Martin still has a copy of this photo, in a frame, at the funeral home, now Grissom-Martin Funeral Home. - CM from information submitted by Judy Corbin.

Supt. Reed presents concept of Indian Boulevard

2015-08-21 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Superintendent Allen Reed unveiled a concept for elevating the status of Indian Drive to Indian Boulevard at last night's Board meeting - by differentiating the main artery through the campus with a simple name change - along with the exploratory idea of making the street a County, City or State Road. Members of the board examined some security and safety problems which would need to be addressed if the roadway, now a private campus street if the ownership is changed. The idea of making the street even more of a centerpiece got a warm reception, though. Each of the five board members present - starting with Lisa Burton (Div 3) and Terry Harvey (7), followed by Quin Lasley (2) and Mike Harris (5) and Chairman Floyd Burton (4), wanted those issues resolved before making any changes in ownership of the road. The idea for the proposal was tabled for now. The idea was tabled. Among things being studied today are whether, if the road is taken over by the county, it could be closed at 10pmCT or earlier for safety and security reasons. "At least everyone has an open mind, Reed said, "they are looking at how it could happen. We're not focusing why it can't." - CM
