Remember the question of the CAUD Board member's status

2015-09-06 - Suite 1, Adair Annex, Columbia, KY - Photo from Deputy CJE Holly Grimsley.
"Legal opinion forthcoming" - Remember the question which CJE Mike Stephens sent to the Public Service Commission last month about the legality of the appointment of Columbia/Adair Utilities District commissioner Larry Russell Bryant. Bryant was approved for the seat by Fiscal Court after the 90 day window for the court to do so had expired. Judge Stephens asked the PSC to clarify. That was on August 14, 2015. After checking to see if the PSC had, in fact, received his request, Judge Stephens received the above the email above, on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Judge Stephens said that for now, there is nothing he can do - or should do - in the case. "We just want to know, one way or the other," he said. - EW

Favorite old photo: Columbia Baptist Church

2015-09-06 - Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo from the collection of Mike Watson.
Adair County Historian Mike Watson favors readers with this favorite old postcard, which he dates at circa 1940s. It appears to have been taken in spring, when spirea was in bloom. On the left, there's a structure with shakes for a roof. Does anyone know what it might be for sure? Folks will wonder, too, if the black smudges on the white areas of the front of the building are photographic imperfections or if might be from the previous winter's coal soot. Update Hunter Durham points out that the postcard company made a mistake. The church is not "First Baptist Church." That church is on Burkesville Street. It is Columbia Baptist Church.

Murrell Burton with a favorite read: Warrior Spirit

2015-09-06 - 408 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Columbia Real Estate Broker Murrell Burton - and his wife, Karen Burton - both highly recommend this book, written by Adair Countian Tim Roy, Jr. It's the true story of man who overcame incredible odds to become a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College with a double major in criminal justice and history, a martial arts expert, and a gifted writer. It's available on Amazon.com at TimRoyWarriorSpirit

Monette had exited the plane and was standing a distance away. When first responders arrived they found him alert, but in need of medical attention.
