G? For Greatest Baseball Team Ever? Garlin? Gradyville?

2015-09-06 - Adair County, KY - Photo from old photos collection.
There's some great players in the photo above: Front row, from left are Lewis Rogers, Billy Huston Gist, Phillip Keltner, Chirpie Nell, the manager; (???). Jiggs Parnell, and Short Burris. In back are Holland Coomer, Sim Breeding, Gene Moss, Mont Breeding, Edgar Richard, Cecil Rogers, J.W. Keltner, Tulsa Coomer, and Kenneth Scott. Review in the photo, the (???) by the manager, appears to be a small girl, hiding behind a stuffed animal. Or is it? And does anybody know the identity of the hill in the background. It looks familiar. - CM

Reading the Columbia Daily Statesman

2015-09-06 - Roughly drawn on driveway at 902 Appen Avenue - Photo painting by Linda Marcum Waggener.
Linda painted this scene, based on memories of a wonderful home in the Jones-Wright Addition, a time when Columbia had a daily newspaper, and memories evoked by the sight of the E.P. Waggener movable rural mailbox which followed our family to several locations. It's a sometime-in-the-70s scene. - EW

City Hall Brightener: Stella d'or seen, Walking Columbia

2015-09-06 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. In theme with the work of the Adair County Garden Club's Downtown plantings, City Hall has Stella d'or daylilies in the landscaping at the Campbellsville Street side; they must be getting the right amount of sunlight, as this one, standing solo, was stunner on Saturday morning, September 5, 2015. - EW
