Fountain Swan, watching the pennies?
2015-09-14 - Fountain Plaza, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A Fountain Swan, one of three, seems to be pondering its shadow - or maybe keeping watch over the pennies tossed in the basin for good luck and the granting of wishes. Thanks to the the Adair County Garden Club, the fountain area is ablaze with geraniums and thanks to the City of Columbia Street Department, the fountain pool sparkles with what looks like a fresh coat of paint. The fountain area really gets a lot of use this time of year, with regular events now a tradition downtown like the farmers market and, fall festivals, downtown people who take lunch breaks there and diners and picnickers, and tourists as well as folks who just find it a convenient place to wait for a ride. - CM

Hills were alive with music at Homeplace Fall Festival 2015
2015-09-13 - Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Mark Coleman. The hills really were alive with the sound of music when Maggie Coleman and Stephanie Archey sang tunes from Rodgers and Hammerstein plays at Saturday’s Homeplace festival. They are known to many as Marie and Mother Abbess in the Lindsey Wilson production of The Sound of Music. Maggie and Stephanie were among six music groups at the festival. They will probably be heard again next summer when Lindsey Wilson will be presenting the musical South Pacific. - George Kolbenschlag
