Epicurean Kentuckian: Italian Sausage at Galen Campbell's cart 2015-10-21 - Exit Corner Public Square & Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Evan Waggener. Haven't found a better Italian Sausage in Downtown Louisville or Chicago than at Galen Campbell's cart in downtown Columbia. The bun was moist but not soggy, the sausage has a neat pop to the bite, and the red & green peppers gave the snack good color, pretty close to colors of the Italian flag, Galen Campbello told me in a brief geography lesson, something else I learned about my ancestral home: You can't even buy a hot dog without getting a school lesson thrown in, to boot, even on fall break for me. A note of warning: sometimes there's a line. I ate lunch in the Mexican restaurant before attempting the queue. Had the Polish Sausage for dessert; I prefer protein to sugary treats. - Evan. Graham, who is always seconds away from running and climbing mode, acted as catcher on the ledge for sibs Ev and Hailey. Walking the ledge has been a traditional launch for a walk up Jamestown Hill for over a century. Acrophobic as I am, I could always make it as far as Hailey did. Downtown Columbia is a Magical place for kids at this time of the year, with the Squarecrows around every turn, outdoor diners, street vendors, the Fountain Plaza, and plenty of friendly people. Hailey loved to linger along the way at each attraction but it was hardest to get her to resume the walk when she discovered perfectly kickable dry maple leaves.
