Smooth Election Process 2015-11-03 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Sheriff Moss said it was a smooth election day in Adair County. All precincts were in within about an hour after the 6pmCT poll closings. In the counting room are, standing, Sheriff Moss; at the left table, clockwise, from front, J.C. Lasley; Board of Elections member Billy Curry, Republican; and Ben Loy, Democrat; Sheila Blair, then County Clerk Lisa Lee. At the computers are Nadalie Inscho, Vicky Hodge and Macy Feese. Not photographed, but receiving the ballots, were Sheila Hayes and Becky Rogers. Couriers between the basement counting room and the clerk's office upstairs were Brooklyn Coomer and Tabitha Denton. Memorabilia of the Adair County Fairgrounds at 409 Fairground is becoming more dear as the grounds transition to a new purpose. The board of directors of Lindsey Wilson College has announced that, whatever the outcome of sale negotiations with the VFW, the 2016 fair will take place here. The Jaycees who operate the fair seem determined to overcome huge obstacles to continue the fair in another location after that, and people who have watched the organization are betting that the Fair will continue, just fine. Marty Perry: Downtown Columbia on National Register? 2015-11-03 - City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, CM photo. Marty Perry, National Register Coordinator for the Kentucky Heritage Council, listened to questions from the audience after making a brief presentation outlining an option for Downtown Columbia to be put on the National Register of Historic Places. Perry came at the invitation of Lindsey Wilson College Dean Betty Starr who will be applying for the Jeffries Building to be put on the National Register on a solo basis unless a majority of property owners in Downtown Columbia decide to ask that the entire Downtown District be certified, in which case the Jeffries Building would join in that application. Perry said that Downtown Columbia is an excellent candidate for the designation. He emphasized that the designation does not in any way, in itself, restrict a property owner's right to make changes or not, but would make the property potentially able to get financial incentives. He said that in most cases, approximately 97% of business owners agree to the inclusion of their property in a National Register application. CU football player Jacob Russell, left, and Will Ward, right, were both named the Mid-South Conference and NAIA Players of the Week, officials announced on Monday, November 2, 2015. Both seniors helped Campbellsville knock off then-No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College last week in the NAIA Game of the Week and Battle of Highway 55, 26-21. The win is CU's seventh straight after starting the season 0-2.
