Mrs. Hannie Gibson's window 2015-11-21 - Breeding, KY in southern Adair County - Photo by Linda Waggener. When Breeding High School was owned by Mrs. Hannie Gibson, the current owner's mother, she made her home in two of the large rooms -- just as Mom and I thought we'd have done had we been able to own an old schoolhouse. Mom went to Bellview School near the Cave Ridge community of Edmonton. My first five years of school were in Sulphur Well where several one-room schools had been consolidated into one long strip across from the United Methodist Church. Country schools in those days were made of sturdy native wood with plenty of windows for good light. It's natural for folks to go across the street to the home of Ronnie and Connie Williams and ask questions about the Breeding High School ruins. Ronnie keeps an eye out on the property and keeps it mowed. In the photo with Ronnie Williams is their grandson, Riley, the eight-year-old son of their daughter Rhonda and Rodney Redmon. Breeding High School is owned by Mrs. Hannie Gibson's son, F.C. Gibson, who lives in Chicago. The school closed in the early 60s but still draws passers by to stop by.
