Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, standing; listened intently to a presentation during which some major decisions were made. For one, the county locked into a 10 year contract for the operation of the Adair County Transfer Station with the current operators, Waste Connections, Inc. In something of a showdown, Waste Connections, Inc. refused to extend its contract for six months to allow magistrates to consider other options, including a county-owned, recycling oriented system, requested by Magistrate Daryl Flatt (District 2). The contract will mean a somewhat better deal on the franchise fee revenue stream coming to the county, slightly higher rates for customers in the county. The court voted unanimously, in the end for CJE Stephens proposal. Judge Stephens won on another showdown: The court voted unanimously to pay its share of of the cost of a new sewer line which will provide service to the "front" (nearest to Campbellsville Road) section of Green River Commerce Park. The line is essential to a contract with Chrysler Motors for Rob Wilkerson's latest venture, Wilkerson Auto & Mobility Sales, LLC. Mr. Wilkerson will be adding 11 new jobs as part of a $215,000 Community Block Grant agreement with the State of Kentucky. The balance of the project money will be provided by the local EDA, $36,000; the City of Columbia, $35,000; and now Adair County Fiscal Court, $35,000.
