The Old Clark Cabin ca 1939
2015-11-28 - On Green River before Green River Lake Flooded it . Old Clark Cabin This photo is in the archives of Larry Clark. On the front porch, from left, Jess Clark, then Larry Clark's grandmother, Cordie Clark; Wency Clark, and her baby Jimmy; the next couple is Hank Kruse & his woman; (???), and on the end of the porch, Larry's father Jimmy Golden Clark. The cabin had to be torn down when the Corps of Engineers confiscated the Clark's 112 acres and gave them $12,500. The family had to go in debt and bought a 100 acre farm on Russell Creek - one the old Hindman farms on Russell Creek. The creek wasn't the same as the river, Larry Clark, remembers. I can remember we sat on the front porch in Milltown and sang for the old place. Our song was "I Wanta Go Home." It was popular then. Out of frame on the left, is Larry Clark's grandfather, Aaron Clark. And the handsome little dog? Larry Clark doesn't remember it's name, but recalls that it died after being bitten by a rattlesnake.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Hot soup on a bone chilling day

After getting chilly just from looking at the cold rain while exploring Bridgeport Road and Boat Ramp Road we made a great discovery: The soup makers of Adair County are really doing great this new season. Melissa Moore served this really hot chicken noodle soup - so good one of us order a refill. Only after we finished eating did she tell us that only one thing would have made it better - some lemon juice. Will try that later. We're still waiting for a restaurant in South Central Kentucky to serve ramen. But in the meantime, made one great discovery at Tray's Garden. Peter Cheng has a chicken pork meatball on the buffet which is served in a chicken based broth over rice noodles with mushrooms, peppers and onions and celery which is one of the best we've tried. Don't know if it will be a staple, but it's fine. We hope he keeps the elements - you combine it your way. It was perfect for a day like today. (Know of something better - something you cook at home? Birds of Kentucky: A huddle of black vultures on a rainy day

Even a bit pitiful looking huddled together on a rainy day, there's not much endearing about black vultures except that their size and numbers - these were just a part of part of the birds perched in a tree on Lakeview Road near Green River Lake, today, before noon. - LW. Photo Sat 28 Nov 2015.
