South Central Kentuckians have learned that when Pyles Excavating mobilizes and those big pans move to a site, something big is going to happen. This scene is from the south end of Will Walker Road, and looks down on the site of the Pinewood Shopping Center over to the manor house of Miss Victoria's Pampered Angus Ranch, a serene pastoral setting across Edmonton Road. The junction is the point at which the City of Columbia meets Adair County, particularly Greater Bliss, All the area has become dubbed "New Columbia," by Danny Pyles. The area should be the scene of great drama and intrigue in the near future, as the very agrarian lifestyle of Miss Vicky and others on her side of the road butts up against the (inevitability?) of commercial expansion. For sure, 2016 will be the year when the area changes forever. Over across the street, across Burkesville Road, in Holladay Place, there is also growth, with a new hotel and a new Hardee's Restaurant opening in 2016. Miss Vicky has served notice that she is keeping an eye on all these things, and, if provoked, is apt to share opinions on the goings on. While travellers may just see the entrance to a beautifuil town, longtime residents are reminded by the Mayor Pat Bell, during whose administration the sign was erected, and remember a phrase he used, "Columbia is a happening town." He couldn't be more right than right now, with three projects underway in nearby Holladay Place, annexed during Mayor Bell's term, and a total new shopping center, Pinewood Shopping Center, adjoining the City of Columbia, in Greater Bliss, Adair County, KY.
