Epicurean Kentuckian: Winterstorm Fried Fish lunch - Quick 2016-01-23 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Snowbound there's nothing one can do but fend for oneself. Made do today with cabbage salad, fortified with garlic, balsamic vinegar, carrots, salt & pepper; fried fish; and a favorite from literature, Hoppin' John. Always think of Carson McCullers and the old Frankie Adams, whose favorite dish was Hoppin' John. They'd know she was really dead, she said, if they passed Hoppin' John under her nose and she didn't rise up. So we made do, watched red birds and snow shadows and were entertained by our soon to be four year old grand, Hailey Elizabeth, taking time out from putting the finishing touches on her "Frozen" themed birthday cake with crumbled Oreos in side.
