Caney Fork Creek's geological oddity - Earthquake?

From this Bridge over Caney Fork Creek there's an oddity in the riffles found, folks around here say, only in this creek. The slate (Travis Garmon corrects - it's shale, he says in accompanying article) floor of the creek, stair step in a reverse order to the flow. Check online sources, CM has not been able to to find any documentation on the phenomenon. The stream's bottom couldn't be clearly seen today, Wed 24 Feb 2016 but the pattern of the riffles can in this looking upstream picture. Our informant said he first was told about it by his uncle, and his own first theory was that the New Madrid Earthquake of 1811-1812 may have been the cause. Comments are welcome. - CM.

Smith Creek was over the road this afternoon, Wed 24 Feb 2016, at this point on Old Cedar Top Road, in the edge of Green County, just north of Pelham Branch Road in Adair County.

Columbia landmark. Adair County's time-transport. The magic of the Trabue-Russell House is felt immediately on entering the historic grounds. No other place can make such a welcome mood change so quickly. It is one of those too few structures which transport one back to a calmer state. The house remains a Columbia Treasure, thanks to an endowment from Jim Blair. Today, above, in those unforgettable skies we shared. - EW

The Changing Face of Jamestown Hill: UCB campus & Big Al's Place

Big Al Owens, the Big Rig Trucker, still owns property on the block surrounded by Jamestown Street, Hayes Street, and Heskamp Street, and was proud of the park-like surroundings the United Citizens Bank campus changes have created which benefits him. The far left brick building is the original United Citizens Bank Building. The nearer one, now incorporated into the complex, is the home built by David & Effie Heskamp which remained under Heskamp family ownership until the bank purchased it. Hayes Street elbows around the cleared area including the Big Al place to rejoin Heskamp Street. - EW.
