Russell Countians congratulate Judge Stephens on victory 2016-03-23 - Ste 1, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. PAC's attorney, Derek Helm, Jamestown, KY, left, and Russell County Judge Gary Robertson, center, made a trip to Columbia last night to congratulate Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, on the landmark victory in the Local Option Election. At the time, the official count was continuing, but PAC headquarters' runners called in enough reports from precincts that the outcome was already assured. Shannon Sexton of PAC had assured Judge Stephens that the margin would be a comfortable 500, More or Less with only a couple of precincts left to report. In the end, the margin was over 600. Both CJE Stephens and Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick endorsed the Yes vote. CJE Robertson said that Russell County has high interest in persons wanting to get one of the counties allocation of seven package stores. Scenic Adair Co., KY: Full moon over Johnson School Road 2016-03-23 - Johnson School Road, Magisterial District 3, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. It was a bright and stormless night, and the full moon shone brightly over Johnson School Road, arguably the most picturesque in the region - at least it was before the county's poison sprays and tree manglers assaulted it. At night, the evidence of the mayhem is less evident, a welcome relief to tree huggers. Maybe the county needs to put up signs, "Please don't eat the blackberries, don't eat the poke, lest ye die." In any case, it should not take a Harvard lawyer to explain the liabilities. The spraying, by the way, is one of the reason's having less government is important: They spend going and coming. While the county is now more dependent than ever on tourism, Fiscal Court - as well as the City of Columbia - want to take uglifying shortcuts and then want to balance that by advertising "Scenic Adair County." This section of Wheeler Hill Road is now marked private drive, but for any who miss the that distinction, they may be surprised that there's a garage in the middle of the road, which, truth be told, may prevent a ton of accidents in the future.. Now people will know that the road ends. Before the garage was built, there was only a guardrail, which kinda snuck up on folks who weren't paying attention. At one time, in the not so distant past, this roadway was Burkesville Road, at the time the most modern route to the capitol of Cumberland County. In the world of photography, it's a given that Ansel Adams could have surpassed all rivals using only a Brownie, up against another photographer's 20 lens Hasselblad. Jane Smith, Simply Jane, is in the same category. She snapped this legacy photograph last night at the Adair County Court Clerk's office, just before the absentee vote was taped to the clerk's door. While she has received raves for past classics, such as the recent Robert's Radiator photo, the Alpine Sign, and others, in all likelihood, this one, taken with a borrowed cell phone will be her classic, and not just for the stellar subject matter.
