Lauren Agathen and Aleah Knifley chosen as Rogers Scholars 2016-04-27 - Campbellsville Middle School, 315 Roberts Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer, CIS. Campbellsville Middle School eighth-graders Lauryn Agathen and Aleah Knifley have been chosen to attend the Rogers Explorers program this summer. The Rogers Explorers program is an intensive three-day, two-night program focused on cultivating skills in leadership, technology, math, science and community service. It is developed, coordinated and supervised by The Center for Rural Development. Agathen and Knifley will attend the program on June 8-10, 2016, at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY. They said they applied to attend because they hope to learn about leadership, meet new people and have fun. - Calen McKinney, CIS Agathen said she had hoped to complete the application process and get an idea of what applying to attend the Rogers Scholars program might be like. “And I thought it would be fun,” she said. The Rogers Scholars program is an extension of the Rogers Explorers program. It is for students who will be entering their junior year of high school. Knifley said she wanted to attend Rogers Explorers to become more involved in her community and to try something new. Agathen and Knifley say they believe attending Rogers Explorers will be a great experience, and something great to add to their college applications. They say they are a bit nervous to be away from home, but are excited to see what the program will offer them. One observer has monitored this weather herald for many decades and it has never failed him. He says that there will be no more cold snaps when the blossoms leave this snowball Viburnum beside City Hall. The observer is, at his insistence, anonymous. But Kentucky Color author Billy Joe Fudge, who calls the snowball viburnum blossom the perfect flower, also follows the signs the Snowball Bush and gives assurances that the last cold snap has been visited on us, and he gave us the term, "the snowball which never melts."
