As a neighbor of Windstream in Columbia, I've noticed these tires in the trash each passing for a few weeks now, hoping there's a plan for recycling. The City garbage pick up does not take tires but they can be taken to the recycling center off Campbellsville Street at 103 Service Road, Columbia, KY this afternoon and tomorrow. Personnel will be on hand to help unload. All tires including those with rims will be accepted. Wildflowers of Adair Co., KY: Multiflora Rose 2016-05-06 - Corbins Bend Road area, near Green River Lake, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). Multiflora Rose may be worthy of the bad press it gets. It gets out of hand. But it does delightful blossoms. The photo was taken on a failed dual mission: One, for over 65 years members of my family, starting with my father, E.P. Waggener, we've monitored and some years put in a journal, the time when Mountain Laurel blooms on the Jericho Cliffs. Generally it has been sometime between May 5-May 19. This year, searching for it was a disappointment. It was scarcely to be seen, and some plants remember from yesteryears appeared to have been purposely removed. Secondly, we wondered if the cold snap, were, indeed, Blackberry Winter. We didn't spot any blackberries in bloom, so someone else will need to document what winter we are in. Now we hope those in search of Mountain Laurel will monitor the Welcome Center at Green River Lake and the Mountain Laurel over the South Fork of the Little Barren in Metcalfe County - and we hope others will let us know if the plant is evident in any other parts of Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and/or Taylor Counties, and share a photo on CM. - EW Comments? | Click here to share, print, or bookmark this photo.
