Other landmarks easily identified are the Columbia Municipal Housing complex, Bank of Columbia Branch Bank. Five Star, Advance Auto, Office Park, and the IGA shopping center. For natives who remember the area just 65 years ago, there has been some changes since - when all of this scene was outside the city limits. Friends of Jeffrey Lawhorn rolled his blue Yamaha motorcycle to the Bread of Life Cafe' parking lot after the owner was thrown from the cycle and it continued northward for approximately one-tenth of a mile before coming to a rest on the grassy bank on the opposite side of the road. Casey County Deputy Sheriff Jamie Walters, who investigated the collision of the motorcycle with a 2006 Buick LaCrosse sedan, said that it appeared the motorcycle had sustained only cosmetic damage. Thank you Mom, Geniece Leftwich Marcum, and Dad Earl Reid Marcum (1921-1983) for choosing each other and allowing me and my younger siblings Keith and Jane, to enter the world. After children are born, parents don't have to stay and raise their kids but you both did. Parents don't have to struggle to earn enough to feed and grow their kids, but you did. Parents don't have to love their kids but you did that, too! I recently found this ancient photo of Mom holding me in my first year and felt deep gratitude for all the years of care she has given me, and then grandsons Pen and Tom and now great grandsons Graham and Evan and granddaughters Tillie and Hailey.
