Daisies nodding in the breeze bring comforting memories 2016-05-22 - Adair County, KY - Photo By Linda Waggener and Geniece Marcum. Riding along country roads this spring has been rewarding at every turn. Inspiration came yesterday from Mom who told me how the blooming field daisies gave her warm memories of her grown up sister. Daisy Magdaline Leftwich would come home from work at Mr. Kopel's dry goods store in Edmonton, change out of her day clothes and take the four-year-old little sister she chose the name for -- Geniece (pronounced G-niece, not G-nice as some do) by the hand and take her for long walks along the river bottom land behind "home". The little girl took in every detail as her hero guided her along fence rows filled with wildflowers and vines. Even the bee on the yellow pad in the middle of the center daisy was familiar. Several have offered names for this incredible shrub/tree and we haven't settled which is correct yet. In most sightings this season, it appears to be a shrub, however, driving on Old Columbia Road in Russell Springs we found it had been cared for and pruned into a lovely tree in this yard. One of our readers had asked for a better photo than the original photo at the link below so we will keep working on the exact name for it. Paired photo.
