'Food Factory' assembles 1,580 meals in 1.5 hours!

In just a bit over 1.5 hours, 55 volunteers gathered at the Columbia Christian Church on Saturday, June 11, 2016, to assemble 1,580 meals to be distributed in Afghanistan and Haiti. They were Chase Cotten, of I.D.E.S., who was in charge, and Patti Troutman, Cora, Brady, Denise Grant and Jenna, Grayson Bragg, Tim and Cindy Johnson, Michala and Emily, Marci and Terry White, Elizabeth and Joey White, Carter and Michala, Judy Spoon, Dwayne and Debbie Martin, Sarah Martin Bob and Betty Fishback, Willard and Marsha Prichard, Dick and Kim Scholl, Taylo , Margaret Owens, Fred and Carol Miller, Megan Shepard and Kaylin, Valerie and Dean Adams, Richard Phelps, Elizabeth Ballou, with Nathan, Sally and Hunter Ballou; Valerie Barnett, Martha and Bill Skaggs, Sharon Edwards, Raymond Martin, Gene and Barb Grasham, Angella and Timothy Watson, Pat and Jerry Vaughn, Melinda Booher and Kaylen Dail.(There was one visitor I asked and wrote down his name, but could not remember, so if you see one that is not listed it is him! - TJ) - TIM JOHNSON Want to help in efforts like these? It's really hard to do justice to the subject with a photo, but to get an idea of scale, look to ledge at the top left corner of the photo -- the tiny white dots are about a dozen people on one of the lookout spots available along the Rim Trail.

Accommodating people downtown: At Printing Creations

One of so many great things about local business people is how accommodating they are. The trunk above is filled with useful notepads, free for the asking. Greg & Joyce Coomer, the owners of Printing Creations, give away scratchpads in a number convenient sizes to those in need. The display begs provenance, and Joyce Coomer explains, "The trunk was my great aunt's -- Lillian Leaner Taylor. She had scarlet fever when she was a child. I have one or two photos of her; she didn't look much older than twelve in a photo taken maybe two years before she died." That's important to know. The notepad I got Saturday before the memorial bridge and highway dedication at the fire department came in very handy, by the way. Best note book I ever used. - ED
