EDA' Mark Dykes: Resolved to see GRCP project built

Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Board Chair Mark Dykes vowed to see the proposed sewer project for the Green River Commerce Park done. "We won't give up on this. We'll stay on top of it until it is done." Almost everything is in place now. There are commitments for local funding for the project from the Rob Wilkerson companies, from the EDA board itself, from Mayor Hardwick for the Columbia City Council, and CJE Mike Stephens, has promised to present it to Fiscal Court. The four groups will kick in $35,000 each. Much of the work will be done by the Columbia/Adair Utility District, and David Bowles of Monarch Engineering has committed to provide engineering for a nominal fee of $1,500. Completion of the project will mean more jobs immediately at Wilkerson Transportation and at the commerce parks flagship company, Assisted Transportation Systems. The sewer is essential for other development in the park. The photo was taken at the CACEDA regular third Tuesday meeting. - EW

Indian Drive, Adair County School District

The Adair County School District campus, at this stage of its transformation, is already showing its potential as a beautiful place for to be and learn. This endless green view is at the Greensburg Street access, from the foot bridge in the Arboretum. By fall, the buses will be gone, and more green space, and more parking for Adair County Middle School will be in place. The first day of school for students will be August 11, 2016. (See: 2016-17 Adair County School Calendar) David Jones, Adair County School Maintenance Supervisor, says his crews are facing a crunch time challenge they will meet, exacerbated by a delay in getting access to the new Adair Transportation Complex, but that they are determined to make it happen.

Archaeology/geology find in Brush Creek in The Flatwoods

Junior Stotts discovered this geological/archaeological oddity in Brush Creek near its crossing of J.C. Lasley Road in The Flatwoods, just a few tenths of a mile from Santa Fee Church. The round part is a hollowed geode. the triangular part molded onto the geode either by nature - and it's a longshot - or by some primitive people who may have, at one time, inherited the area. "You could put a dogwood handle in it and it would look like a hoe," Mr. Stotts said. - EW

Adair County Transportation Complex move-in near

Following final punchlist walkthrough with the construction manager and architects, Adair County School District Maintenance Director David Jones is optimistic that the system will be able to move from the old J.T. Coomer Bus Garage to the new $1.7 million dollar facility, above, as early as Thursday, June 23, 2016. The move, now, is largely dependent on the installation of the oil dispensing unit.
