As a little girl, I wondered why Grandmother Alice Royce Marcum would bother with a plain bush that bore plain, brown flowers -- until she showed me how to warm a blossom in my fist for a moment, then open my palm and inhale -- it had incredible, sweet perfume! My respect for the flower soared and all the Ugly Duckling story themes I'd heard made perfect sense. It may come as a surprise, but this really large zucchini is the best for some purposes. Margie Rooks said that some customers prefer this size for baking items like zucchini bread. And, she said that some customers want really big, melon yellow cucumbers for certain kinds of pickles. In any case, this one - she only had one of this size today, is the biggest zucchini this photographer had ever seen.
