Margie Coffey found this old photo in her collection and gave it to Kenneth Scott asking him to give it to Joe Rogers, who has uncles Cecil and Louis Rogers and Aunt Eurene Rogers (Murrell) in this 1938 photo of the Gradyvile School. Mr. Rogers plans to make the gift to his first cousin, but first wanted to share it with readers of the magazine. Our thanks to Mrs. Coffey and Mr. Scott. - EW

Good things are coming in from the garden - all at the peak of perfect perfection except maybe for the red tomatoes, still in an anticipatory stage. But the rest, perfect. These were bought Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Adair Extension Office. We'll use some of it in a hamburger sandwich we learned about in Stanford, one with fried green tomato as the featured attraction that isn't better with fried green tomatoes. Still researching how to handle the eggplant; maybe someone will tell us what to do. - EW

A lot is going on on the campuses in Columbia. At Adair County High School the Big A has two messages, "Find Your Purpose," entering campus on Indian Drive from Greensburg Street, and "Find Your Passion" on the other side. Students return to school on August 12, 2016. - CM

It is expected to be the last year the Adair County Fairgrounds will have any of this look, except for the "Reverse D" deep green in the foreground above. That's the City Park which, for the moment, is not part of the ongoing negotiations to make the Fairgrounds part of the Lindsey Wilson College's campus. Within the park, on the left, is the old City Swimming Pool, now filled in and a light brown in the photo. On the right is a paved tennis Court. The park also has restrooms, kiddy play grounds, and a much used outdoor basketball court. On the lower right is Adair County Extension office, not part of the grounds. The pale blue building is VFW Post 6097, which will be moved to a new site, just outside the frame, in the top right of the photo. The road to the right is Fairground Street /KY 206, which becomes Liberty Road across Russell Creek, and was known as "Stanford Road," when the fairgrounds was first located here. The upper part of the oval, with the carnival was once known as the grove, and was the homefield for a number of great Adair County Baseball teams - amateur, high school, and semi-pro. For many years, that area provided parking and strictly fair - not carnival features. In those days, the carnival lot fronted on fairground street. On the left in the photo is a large trailer park which is not part of the fairground and will not be affected by the sale. - CM
