A set up for a predictable, preventable tragedy 2016-08-17 - Campbellsville Street Crosswalk, Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). Yesterday afternoon, an injury accident occurred at this point on the Public Square. It happened in a driving rain. Visibility was low. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. No one is seeking blame for the incident. Certainly not against the pedestrian who was trying to make the crossing. What is missing for drivers are visible or physical cues to encourage them to slow for the crossings, aggravated by long held habits of drivers who are bent on using the area as a throughfare, and a community which has not yet come to grips with the concept that Pedestrian Lives Matter. Health groups, as well as those passionately concerned with attracting good jobs to Columbia, or only now being heard on the subject of pedestrian safety. Historic Columbia residence makes history again 2016-08-17 - Columbia Bed & Breakfast, 711 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). It's a residence filled with history - we'll have more on that later. In "recent" times, it was the home of Adair County Historian N.J. Berley ("Early Columbia") and Robert Flowers, long time Columbia civic leader. Today, it is the home of Charles & Holly Grimsley, who have made history again with Adair County's first Air B&B, Columbia Bed & Breakfast. Mr. Grimsley, reported last night at City Council that the business is off to a great start.
