LCADD volunteers support no smoking petition

Supporting Smoke Free Adair County: Seated Dani York, Emily Phillips, Elizabeth Marcum and Luke Stotts; Adair County middle and high school students; and standing; ACHS students Jenna Rodgers, Austin Turner, LCADD Health Educator Jelaine Harlow, and ACHS student Natalie Helm. Some in the group are gathering signatures on a petition for the Adair County Fiscal Court at the booth, while others fanned out among the crowd getting festival goers to sign the petition, with remarkable success. - EW

Downtown Days 2016 - A busy, busy Cafe Court

The cafe court lining Burkesville Street is a busy place today for Downtown Days 2016, which has so far, according to Jada Coomer of the Downtown Columbia Committee, "The biggest and best ever." So far, all has been going without a hitch. That's Sheriff Harrison Moss, center, enjoying a cafe court early lunch sandwich. As the day has drawn on, the crowds have been getting bigger and bigger. - EW

Wildflowers of KY: The elusive Kudzu blossom

Caught these a bit after peak of perfection, but it's interesting to note that, according to the entry, Kudzu, Wikipedia, the flowers of the much maligned plant can be used to make a jelly with a taste similar to grape jelly. (And you thought the leaves were only good for making Kudzu Chips!). As with most plants, there are pro's and con's and in the U.S., the balance of prejudice leans toward eradication of the plant, except among goatherds, who allow their flocks to graze kudzu, according to the cited Wikipedia entry. - EW
