Judy Keltner leads public hearing on new Learning Center

Judy Keltner, Columbia, KY, the Associate Director for Community/Economic Development at the Lake Cumberland Add District, led the Public Hearing to determine support for the proposed Adair County School Districts new Community Learning Center/Central Office. Following the hearing and a special called meeting of the Columbia City Council, the Council, with all members present, voted unanimously for a "Resolution of authority/approval authorizing Mayor Hardwick, center, background, to enter into and file the CDBG application to the Department for local government and to additionally authorize him to review and sign any and all necessary documents that may be required for said application and project implementation." The CDBG application is for $500,000. Keltner said that the total project is $6.5 million, with $1,000,000 coming from an Eastern Kentucky "Red Leg" loan, $1,250,000 in a new Adair County School District bond issue, and $3,750,000 from a State of Kentucky Workplace Development grant. - EW

The Adair County Fair Association/Jaycees will accept sealed bids for the sale of the main pavilion at the Fairgrounds located at 413 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY 42728 up until Monday, November 7 at 4:00 p.m. Bids may be mailed to Adair County Fair Association, P.O. Box 401, Columbia, KY 42728. Bids will be opened at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Please include with your bid a copy of liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000. Any bid not signed or with no proof of insurance will be disqualified. The winning bidder will be notified upon award of bid and deconstruction may begin immediately. All removal must be completed by December 31, 2016. The pavilion was built approximately 6 years ago it is a steel structure with aluminum encasing and a metal roof. An enclosed meeting room which has drywall, a drop ceiling, air/heat unit, cabinets, two bathrooms and maintenance room is included in the bid. The dimensions of the building are 50' X 125'. Saturday night accident claims lives of 2 CU students, injures 1
 2016-10-25 - Campbellsville, KY . Two Campbellsville University students were killed and one injured in a one-car accident Saturday night, Oct. 22, 2016. Killed were Prasanth Venkat Naga Kommu (center), 31, and Rajasekhar Reddy Yaramala (right), 25. Injured was Anvesh Kumar Morampudi (left), 24, who remains a patient at University Hospital in Cincinnati. All lived in Louisville and were students at the CU Louisville Center.
