Besides being aesthetically pleasing and being a color with a powerful alert function, the Adair County bridges thematically painted red serve another purpose: For now, they let one know what county they are in. On Sunday, not sure whether we were in Adair or Russell County on Acree Road, we saw the signature red approaches on the Acree Road Bridge over Reynolds Creek and could feel fairly certain we were in Adair County. We were. It's pretty nice to have that cue, as so often the only indication that there is a county line change at all is an abrupt change of shade of black or gray in the pavement. An old tree made a perfect frame for this river bottom farm viewed from Keen-Wilson Road, Adair County, KY, in the Christmas day mist, Sunday, December 25, 2016. The photo was taken from above the remains of the long-since-gone Young Mill. A note to anyone going there: This is one of the most dangerous vantage points from an County Road in Adair County. There's no guard rail, the shoulders are the best, and in some places, were one to fall, there's almost no brush to break a fall.
