Cumberland County Middle School, on the District's Middle & High School campus on N Main Street, Burkesville, KY. Students were on Christmas break when this photo was taken Thursday, December 29, 2016, but come Monday morning, January 2, 2017, the highly ranked school will be back in session. - EW

Happy horses on KY 640, Metcalfe Co., KY

The 8.6 miles - according to Google maps - sojourn from Randolph to Summer Shade in Metcalfe County, KY, is one of Kentucky's most scenic drives, in all seasons. In any season, the horses along the way raise spirits. On Thursday, December 30, 2016, they seemed especially happy with the unseasonably warm weather, running with the wind in their manes. - EW/LW

KY Afield Outdoors: Reducing Asian Carp among 2017 goals

A multi-year effort by the Fisheries Division of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to help reduce the population of Asian carp by working with fish processors and the commercial fishing industry should bear fruit in 2017. This is one of the many efforts and programs to improve wildlife and their habitats in the coming year.

Three bridges: On the left, the John F. Kennedy Bridge. In the center, the towers of the cable stayed and new Abraham Lincoln Bridge, and, on the right, the Big Four pedestrian bridge. When the photo was taken, the crossing on the Abraham Lincoln was free. Starting Friday, December 30, 2016 there will be varying toll charges imposed. This photo was taken Wednesday, December 28, 2016. - EW
