Scenic Adair Co., KY: Cattle grazing in winter pasture

2017-01-02 - Off Old Montpelier Road, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Marcum Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c).
A favorite "shortcut" to Montpelier is Old Montpelier Road - which could aptly be named "the Montpelier Bypass" is an equally scenic County Road from Pleasant Hill Christian Church to the Central Business District of Montpelier. Along the way, there's equally scenic farm scenes as on Montpelier Road. This one, off J. Coffey Road, with the grand old farmstead, offers a great vista year round, especially in winter time. - EW

Travel: New one-third mile tunnel on Gene Snyder Freeway

2017-01-01 - Louisville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) .
Light at the end of the tunnel: The Kentucky approach to the new Lewis & Clark eastend bridge extends Kentucky 841, the Gene Snyder Freeway around Louisville, from its previous termination at U.S. 42, adding a new four-lane (two northbound, two southbound) 1.4-mile section. This section includes a pair of 1,700-foot tunnels that carry Kentucky 841 traffic beneath U.S. 42 and the historic Drumanard estate. The photo above is southbound. The Indiana approach, also four lanes, extends Indiana 265, the Lee Hamilton Highway, four miles to the Ohio River from its previous termination at Indiana 62.
