Adair Co. Fire Dept. announces new addition to fleet
2017-02-10 - Merchant Street, Columbia, KY - Photo Submitted by Donald Hare, Public Information Officer, Columbia/Adair Fire County Fire Department. A new front line firefighting unit, a 2017 Freightliner 5 man custom cab, replaces the Adair County Fire Department's previous model immediately. Since our last major purchase of remodeling our fire station in 2003, we have been saving funds knowing that we need to replace our aging fleet, We remind everyone that there is no local tax money provided to our department and our only source of income is from our loyal members that pay there fire dues every year to make sure they have the best fire protection around. The Department has already received training on the Freightliner's operation and it is on duty this Friday morning, February 9, 2017. - Donald Hare

KY Afield Outdoors: Getting ready to fish
2017-02-09 - Frankfort, KY - Photo by Lee McClellan. Regular maintenance keeps today's high performance reels singing. Dirt, grime and lack of lubrication shorten a reel's life and impact its performance on the water. It is a good idea to replace the line on all of your reels, inspect your rods for any needed repairs and organize your tackle before the spring fishing season arrives in just a few weeks.

Adair County Fairgrounds: 1884 Building almost ghost now
2017-02-09 - Adair County Fairgrounds, 413 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) . The "1884 Building" at the old Adair County Fairground is almost at a stage to be called a "Ghost Deconstruction" in a bizarre way related to the "Ghost Reconstruction" interpretative buildings seen in McCreary County at the old Blue Heron #18 Coal Mine. We haven't heard what will become of the valuable old timber in the building, but wouldn't it be nice if such buildings could be reconstructed at a place like Homestead on Green River. It's not a new idea. The Chowning Family allowed the old Morgan School on KY 704 to have an extended life, rebuilt in the Dr. Schickel Community Park. - Ed Waggener Apparition photographed 3 Feb 2016. Comments links:

Scenic Russell Co., KY: Springlike shadows on S curve
2017-02-09 - KY 3281, Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com photo(c). Taking KY 3281 from near the Amaranth mansion on US 127 in Russell County, one passes some of the most wonderful countryside anywhere. This scene is one of those beckoning S curves reaching for the crest of a hill, raising curiosity about what is on the other side. Even as early as February 3, 2017, when this picture was taken, the grass was green, the verges green, foreshadowing one of the best times of the year to explore the area, not too many days off, when those vast fields of daffodils come in bloom in Russell County. - EW. Corrections, clarifications, amplifications welcome.
