Daffodil Watch 2017: Flowers in a crannied wall
2017-03-16 - Along KY 551, Roley, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) . A lone cluster of daffodils thrives in the retaining wall in front of the site of the old Chelf place near Roley Cemetery on KY 551. New to CM today, from a cursory scan of the article in Wikipedia Narcissus-plant, the priceless information that another name, in addition to Narcissus and Jonquils, is "daffadowndilly," a word to surely warm the heart of Mary Poppinses everywhere. - EW

Fiscal Court attendees could not get enough of good thing
2017-03-16 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) . It seemed many weren't in a hurry to leave following the short, but highly productive Adair County Fiscal Court, Tuesday, March 14, 2017. The mood was brightened by the news from presiding officer Magistrate Billy Dean Coffey's report of the recovery of CJE Michael Lee Stephens, who is now in the office for short periods almost every day. Coffey, in the the red sweater behind podium, was talking with, back to camera, Adair Emergency Manager Mike Keltner and WAIN radio newsman Joe Collins (Santy Claus beard). In the foreground, Adair County SAR CEO Shannon Rowe (red cap) talked with Adair County Regional Jailer Joey White. Rowe attended in support of a request for funding for the Adair County SAR. In the background, Adair County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin. - EW

Scenic Casey County, KY: KY 910 at Dry Fork Road
2017-03-16 - Casey County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, Columbiamagazine.com(c) . It's a scene which captivates photographers, Kentucky 910 at Dry Fork Road, in Casey County. Many will prefer the scene a few days from now, when there are more redbuds, plum thickets, and a bit later, dogwoods in bloom. But for many, this time, showing off the impact of Eastern Red Cedar, the just greening pastures, and the splashes of yellow Forsythia and the spreads of Daffodils, are best. - EW

Birds of Kentucky: Can you find the red-tailed hawks?
2017-03-15 - Greater Gadberry, Adair County, KY - Photo by Charles Marshburn. "Wish I had a better camera! There is a pair of hawks sitting together in the top of a tree just a little out of range of my old Brownie! I have never seen this!" Charles Marshburn writes, raising a few questions: Has anyone else? Wonder if they are pondering a coordinated swoop on bigger and bigger prey? If there is a physicist or air and space academician in the house, how many red-tailed hawks would it take, attacking together, to swoop down, attach talons, and fly off with an 800 pound cow? - CM
