Shelby Robertson, a junior at Russell County High School, has been in the Somerset Community College Upward Bound Program for two years. The goal of the Upward Bound program, which serves Russell and Casey County students who show financial need, is to assist first generation college students in preparing and succeeding in higher education. Robertson's thoughts on the importance of the Upward Bound program were recently published on Affinity Magazine, an online magazine for teens, written by teens. - ALLISON HORSEMAN

Preschool students study the letter V - for Volcano
 2017-03-28 - Campbellsville Elementary School, 315 Roberts Road, Campbellsville, KY - Photo by Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer, Campbellsville Independent Schools (CIS). Campbellsville Elementary School preschool students recently studied the letter V.
In addition to learning to write the letter in uppercase and lowercase, students in Denise Spencer’s class learned several words that start with V.
One of the words was "volcano."
After the unit, Spencer showed students a model of a volcano and made it erupt by using baking soda and vinegar. Above Spencer adds baking soda to the volcano.
