CJE Mike Stephens presided at a special called meeting at 1pmCT, today, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, with, in attendance, pictured from left, Magistrates Perry Reeder (District 4), Sammy Baker (3), Daryl Flatt (2), Deputy CJE Andrea Waggener, (Judge Stephens), Session Recorder Gale Cowan, County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin, and Magistrates Greg Caldwell (6), and Terry Hadley (7), and not pictured, County Treasurer Melinda Quinn, and media representatives, Ann Melton of The Adair Progress, Adam Capps of the Community Voice, and Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. In quick succession, the body approved by a unanimous vote of Fiscal Court members present, 1) Extending the deadline for health insurance bids. 2) Advertising for new insurance bids. 3) Allowing the Columbia/Adair County Parks & Rec to buy $5,000 worth of playground equipment for Jim Blair Park with already budgeted money. 4) Transferring line item funds, and 5) a resolution for a $20,000 grant for Household Hazardous Waste, with the county contributing 25%, in-kind or cash.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Roast Pork Soup
2017-04-04 - Photo by Pen. An Asian-inspired soup made with part of a leftover porkchop, some celery, onion, and bell pepper, plus freshly grated garlic and ginger. Ingredients were sauted in a little sesame oil, the pan deglased with a tablespoon of rice wine vinegar, and then some chicken broth was added to make the soup. Fresh spinach leaves were added just before serving, so that they stayed nice and green.

Randy Burns presents case for purchase of Little League Park

Randy Burns presented the case for the City of Columbia purchase of the Adair County Little League Park, 167 Doc Walker Road, Columbia, KY. The City will pay $1 for title to the property, and will entail some as yet to be determined ongoing costs in addition to approximately $12,000 per year in estimated utilities bills. The Adair County Little League will continue operations, and the city will have the right to develop some land in the park. The agreement specifies that the park will continue to be "The Joe Johnson Little League Park." All members of the Council favored proceeding with the negotiations, but two members, Pam Hoots and Linda Waggener, did not vote last night, both asking that more time be allowed to sort out the details, a clearer policy be formulated, and that the relationship between the newly acquired park and the Columbia/Adair Parks and Recreation be clarified, but failed to sway four members, Craig Dean, Craig Lasley, Mark D. Harris, and Ronald Rogers. - ED WAGGENER
