A large tear-shaped island in the middle of Russell Creek, taken from the bluff on Gentry Mill Road, in Adair County, appears to be awaiting fishermen, sightseers, picnickers or kayakers - the latter having the best chance of getting there. With the rapidly increasing interest in kayaking on Russell Creek, one would wonder at how far this is from the Kayak Park now in development at the Old Water Plant in Columbia, and how far from the headwaters of Russell Creek in Russell Springs, and whether anyone has ever completed the 99 mile length of the stream from its headwaters to its confluence with Green River in Greensburg, Green County, KY? Proprieter/Owner/Operator/Head Pitmaster Susan Nokes of Millerfield Cafe is smoking BBQ better than a Kansas City pro at Fridays & Saturdays at the restaurant. That's a thick piece of shoulder on the left, a pork chop on the right, with a plate assembled by diners at table with a piece of cornbread and the cafe's wonderful red potato salad (worth the trip) itself.
