With both of her big brothers out of town for the weekend, Hailey Waggener quickly made some big changes to the care and feeding of Churchill the puppy. Frequent walks were interspersed with a new diet of dandelions and violet leaves on a bed of handpicked Bermuda and crab grasses. The dog--who has a strong preference for shoes, sticks, and squeaky toys-- dutifully chewed a handful of clippings before turning up his nose at the new food offerings. This scene was captured from the Reed Street front ramp at City Hall, before the special meeting of City Council, Thu 22 Apr 2017 - one of the shortest on record, but one which completed a significant, essential step toward developing Jim Blair Park. The process is overly complicated with Adair County's currently outmoded governance. But there is park progress, despite having so many overlapping governmental units. Now, with the City acknowledging the need to make Columbia healthier by being more walkable, there is great optimism that the community will reap the economic development and tourism rewards, and health benefits a more walkable downtown campus will bring. - EW. Master pottery artist David Waltz, Gradyville, Adair County, KY shared his skills with young artists to be at Saturday's Spring Festival at Homeplace on Green River. Waltz, who taught his art in Maryland for many years, volunteers his talents frequently at Homeplace events. Here he's working with Columbia's Ty Coleman, son of Mark and Maggie Coleman.
