We're sure hoping that coneflowers, more prevalent since the era of Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program - help us, surely some acronymist among the Feds have a shorter name for this) added a new dimension to a great USDA's not-farming payment system - for fun and profit days - which all of us enjoyed, though may not as much by some as others who snidely demeaned the program as 'welfare for the rich and landed' - proves to be 100% beneficial to the environment, and should targeted for an open air gas chamber extinction of the roads people. These coneflowers seemed to have excaped their cropland, risking their lives on a right-of-way, enhancing Agri-Tourism Economic Development for the masses. Not so long ago, the new flag at the Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street stood tallest we think. but sometime this week a challenger was raised, at the headquarters of United Citizens Bank of Southern Kentucky (actually in what is commonly known as Ann Sutton's front yard). We saw it first at twilight's last glow. It was a compelling site - and in plenty of time for July 4th. Kinda gives one chill bumps. The breeze didn't cooperate last night, but one is welcome to imagine it flowing out from the pole. One could hope local businesses and institutions would vie for the tallest, biggest, flag in the community. Maybe in the state, maybe in the world??? A large tree has fallen across Russell Creek and is creating a strainer on the upstream face of the Fairground Street/Liberty Road/KY 206 Bridge in Columbia, KY. Already an alert for Kayakers, Canoeist and Boaters, it likely will require a state highway maintenance crew or contractors to remove. In almost all debris build ups like this one, the bridge piers themselves prevent stainer removal by natural means. I like how the sun created interesting shadow lines from the handrails.
