J. Adair was here, we think

2017-06-19 - Corner of Reed and Fortune Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
Treasures like what appears to be General John Adair's carved signature on a plaster wall in Columbia's federalist style John Field House continue to be preserved. The owners have made a lot of progress shoring up the foundation of the home and say they now look forward to begining on the interior.

Linda spotted a welcome sight from Sano Road, green apples on a tree along Gentry Mill Road. Could calculate how many belly aches might have been brought on by apples at this stage sixty years ago, but a rough estimate is - a lot. -CM

Right-of-way blackberries fighting to ripen

2017-06-18 - Greenhills Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Right-of-way treats like these ripening blackberries have always been a help humans and animals alike, but now that's changed with weedkiller. My love of roadside growth and wishes to see if left alone has had to be altered this season with the onslaught of the poison Hemlock, the fast-spreading dangerous weed that has been in the news so much. I now respect the need for sometimes using weed killing potions and only hope we can somehow find something to do the job without hurting the good plants. - LW
