Larry Smith, who maintains a collection of radio artifacts, demonstrated a working model of his coffee cup telephone amplifier. This was live streaming Shoreline Communications latest acquisition, WDKO, Liberty, KY using a FM2 coffee cup. His extensive research so far with many cups is that the biggest McDonald's cup gives maximum surge in volume. The amplifier idea comes with a caveat: The cup must be dry, both for maximum sound, and because most or all cellphones aren't hot coffee immersible. Students helped children and adults learn fishing fundamentals, such as how to cast a line. The event also celebrated the opening of Pompano’s Bait House. Fishing team members Bryce Richardson, Caleb Hughes and Toyse Cox, who will all be seniors this fall, helped at the event. Heavy rains have given us many gifts this season, like this lakeside art at Pleasant Hill dock in Russell County recently. Composing the photo, I was reminded of my lovely mother-in-law, Audrey Chelf Waggener, who asked me once if anything had ever scared me so badly I couldn't stand to talk about it for weeks? What had scared her like that? She had attended a family event at the lake and when she stepped up to get on the houseboat, her foot slipped and she headed down toward the dark water.
