Holidays and weekends not always great for everybody
2017-07-03 - Photo from an old scrapbook in Green County, KY. If you look into this 1941 story and picture from "Fed Up Feeder" in the Courier Journal, you'll realize that the person who always freely cooks and hosts (in my family my Grandmothers) doesn't really want to do so every single solitary time. A break for them would be welcome.

Hunter Durham sends mystery favorite old photo
2017-07-03 - ????? - Photo Hunter Durham. Attorney H. Hunter - in earlier days "Henry Hunter" - Durham sends this favorite old photo wondering if anyone can recognize anyone in the picture, saying, "I do." If you know, submit names using the "Comments" button with this photo. And if you know the location and the occasion for the photo, that would be just splendid. It is a rather impressive, promising assemblage.

A new-fangled hollyhock
2017-07-03 - Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. This star spangled hollyhock plant, sprawling over lower flowers, came from a bulb according to gardner Fay McKinley, rather than seed pods which is how old fashioned hollyhocks get born. She found this one which produces pretty, pink carnation-like blooms, in the Walmart garden center a while back and the blossoms are so heavy they pull the stalks over. - LW. Paired photo

Looking out on the flower garden
2017-07-03 - Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. This pretty view at the kitchen window belongs to Fay McKinley. On the inside are violets just like her Mama Audrey Waggener grew, and on the outside are sun flowers, butterfly bush, apple tree and one interesting, sprawling hollyhock that requires a closer check. - LW.
