Adair Deputy ABC Commissioner gets major changes in code 2017-07-12 - Basement, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com photo(c). Shannon Sexton, Adair County Deputy ABC Commissioner, explained changes needed in the Adair County Alcoholic Beverage regulations to bring them into compliance with new rules at the state level. Included in a unanimously approved first reading were to approve a catering license addition, a provision to allow transfer of inventories between stores owned by the same entity, and language which would prohibit stand alone bars in the county. The court tabled recommendations to put the communities in the county an even playing field competing with city businesses and allow Sunday Sales. Also tabled was a recommendation to loosen sign restrictions which might be be construed as a violation of "Commercial Free Speech." Adair County Historian Mike Watson has acquired two relics of antiquity, pews once used in the Tabor community church. He hasn't revealed what he plans to do with them but said is not planning to start a church. Though he was pleased with progress Fiscal Court made to restore the only major exterior repair needed, he wouldn't comment on Fiscal Court inaction, Tuesday, 11 Jul 2017, when the court totally ignored a major need, filling the seemingly eternally vacant Constitutional Office of Cemetery Commissioner, an office Mike Watson has long aspired to hold, and apparently has full support of a vast majority of Adair County History buffs and genealogist. Having an Adair County Cemetery Commissioner would propel the County to No. 1 among sister counties in the field - ahead of neighbors Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor - none of which have a Cemetery Commissioner.
