Rabbit visiting grave of loved one, or checking out sweet clover?
2017-07-17 - Downtown Columbia, KY Cemetery - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. The Cottontail rabbit in the foreground appears to be looking at the name on the stone, or it could just be pausing to chew some of the sweet clover that had just been washed clean in the last rain. Either way, the rabbit was being very respectful. - LW

The three Barnetts Creek UMC buildings
2017-07-17 - Barnetts Creek UMC, Pellyton, KY - Photo from Briarhopper - BJ Hagy of Barnetts Creek, KY & New Hampshire . It may be time for new commemorative plates from World Wide Art Studio in Covington, TN next year in October, when the Barnett's Creek United Methodist Church reaches its 125th anniversary. These plates are the prized possessions of BJ Hagy, who was a witness - from his home a mile away - to the January 10, 1959 fire which destroyed the second building. Epicurean Kentuckian: Sandwich & Bragg limeade in Defoe, KY
2017-07-17 - Amish store, KY 421, Defoe, KY - Photo by Tom Waggener (c). Enjoyed a great ham, lettuce, tomato and Havarti sandwich on a pretzel bun - had to buy two pretzel buns to get one for the sandwich - washed down with a bottle of Bragg all natural apple cider limeade on the road Friday, 14 Jul 2017. If anyone knows, is it "Da-foe," or "DEE-foe"? - Thought i heard it both ways. Maybe not. - Tom M. Waggener

On Opening Day: Barnetts Crk. Rd. Bridge over Sapp Creek
2017-07-17 - Near the Intersection of Scott Hill Road and Barnetts Creek Road - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c). Great minds in synch: When the ColumbiaMagazine.com news crew made an expedition to pay proper homage to Adair County Road Superintendent Terry Corbin & Crew's latest bridge, they were met by Bill Aldridge and his mother Jackie Aldridge and Pansy, in the foreground. It was a good time to see the bridge and the span, we've learned from BJ Hagy, over Sapp Creek. (Many townies will argue whether it was named for Doug or Donald - we'd think Avanell; but won't mention that; BJ Hagy is strict about keeping accurate history about the place.) And it will be a good place to visit because there's still a delightful visitors' pull off on the left with room for an impromptu picnic set up, while it's still available. - EW

Birds of KY: Barn swallows come back to Breeding
2017-07-16 - Breeding, Adair County, KY - Photo by Sabine Eastham, Director, International Student Programs. Our baby barn swallows...their parents are anxiously circling, one in right photo, as it apparently took too long to take the baby pictures. They have been building their nest in the same location in Breeding for many years and return each spring with the entire family. We are glad to see their numbers grow. - Sabine Eastham

Jackie and son Bill Aldridge on the newly opened bridge
2017-07-16 - Barnetts Creek Road, Pellyton, District 1, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c). We met in celebration of the newly opened Barnett's Creek Road bridge over Sapp Creek in north eastern Adair County this week. Jackie Aldridge, her son Bill, and their dog Pansy, shared our curiosity and were there when we arrived on the same mission. They live just past the bridge and travel will be easier for them now that it's complete. - LW & EW
